A magnificent signed bronze plaque depicting a tender moment between mother and child. The muscular arms of the mother figure highlight her strength and power. The material allows for a wonderfully textured surface, which is mounted on wood to give a decorative finish. A fantastic display of this accomplished Spanish artist's work.
Manuel Martinez Hugué, more widely known as 'Manolo,' was a highly celebrated Catalan sculptor. A close friend of Pablo Picasso, the artist was born in Barcelona in 1872 and spent some time living in Paris, where he developed his outstanding style which has echoes of the French master Aristide Maillol (1861-1944). Manolo is widely known for his magnificent sculptures, but this skilled artist also created a wonderful collection of paintings, drawings and prints. All of these works have proven highly sought-after internationally at auction, with sales figures reaching close to £14,000.
